Corporate Donors
- FirmA sets up a DAF, a tax-exempt trust providing tax receipts for donations. FirmA can later direct grants to operational charities.
- FirmA (independently of its venture fund) purchases private securities in the startups held by the fund and donates them to the DAF.
- FirmA can also raise cash donations for the DAF from employees, suppliers, and customers, and FirmA can direct those donations into private securities in these startups.
Each dollar invested and donated benefits FirmA and its venture fund. These steps can be repeated annually to continually reinforce this positive feedback loop.
Note: A venture fund likely cannot directly set up a DAF itself, but corporate venture fund employees should introduce this concept to the CFO of the firm that owns the fund.
